Data-Driven Analyses in UN Peace Missions

This project aims to leverage machine-learning techniques to analyze the extensive information contained in internal UN reports compiled in peace missions.

The project draws on two data sources: (1) situation-reports compiled by UN Civil Affairs; and (2) the UN’s Situational Awareness Geospatial Enterprise (SAGE) database.

The project leverages existing resources within ETH Zurich, such as the ETH AI Center and the Institute for Machine Learning. The project is in part inspired by the 2020 ‘Data Strategy’ of the UN Secretary General. That strategy identifies lasting partnerships between the UN and outside actors as a central element of effective ‘data action’.
